Prevent is a multidisciplinary institute which seeks to minimise occupational risks by promoting the quality of working conditions and by improving work organisation.

The institute is active in research and supports, advises and informs companies and institutions, as well as workplace-accident insurance companies, external occupational prevention and protection services, professional associations, the social partners, authorities and other stakeholders. Its national and international training activities are organised through the Prevent Academy for Working Life.

Prevent is dedicated to the development, collection and mobilisation of knowledge about safe and healthy working conditions. Its activities are mainly directed towards gathering, developing and transferring knowledge in the field of occupational safety, health and well-being at work. To this end, the institute carries out research activities and surveys that are focused on actual practice.

National Centre for Workplace Health Promotion (NCWHP) was established in 1996 and is located within the structures of the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine – NIOM (Łódź, Poland). 

It consists of an interdisciplinary team of researchers and implementers who had launched its activities in a field of sociology of health and medicine. Currently it was enlarged with other disciplines mostly public health, political science and pedagogy.

The Centre is a unique scientific and implantation institution in Poland which from the beginning of the 90’s of XX century carries out in a complex and systematic way research and analysis of status and conditions of workplace health promotion in Poland as well as makes use of these data for the purpose of practice.

The Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine (NIOM), Lodz, Poland, was founded in 1954. It is a complex research and development centre with activities covering not only the field broadly-understood as occupational medicine (inter alia diagnostics, prevention and treatment of occupational diseases) but also a wider range of activities (inter alia working population politics or health promotion). Now ca. 450 people (of whom more ca. 1/3 have the scientist post) are employed in the Institute. Since 1975 NIOM has been playing the role of World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre in Occupational Health.

Romtens Foundation is a Romanian non-governmental organization that has been active in the field of Public and Occupational Health since 1997, when it was founded. The foundation runs various projects targeted at promoting healthy workplaces but also community development in rural areas in Romania, or other health-related topics.

Romtens Foundation has had as a main focus for the past 10 years Workplace Health Promotion and has specialized in both, research (qualitative, quantitative and project evaluation research) and trainings` development and delivery (content development on various health topics for various categories of trainees, i.e. general practitioners, managers, employees etc.).

Due to its outstanding activities in the field of OSH research and promotion, Romtens Foundation has received in 2008 the status of Public Utility Institution, at national level.

Upper Austrian Sickness Fund UASF provides statutory health insurance. This insurance is compulsory and includes nearly all employed persons working in the Upper Austria region. The health insurance is funded through contributions from both employees and their employers. The services range from health care to prevention and health promotion.

AUSF also acts as a coordination office for the Austrian Network of Workplace Health Promotion (ANWHP). The ANWHP operates throughout the country and is dedicated to the following goals:

  • the dissemination of a wholistic WHP strategy in Austria

  • the construction of an uniform understanding of WHP
  • the establishment of competent contact points in all federal states

The Institute of Normal and Pathological Physiology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (INPP SAS) took on the role of Slovak NCO of the ENWHP in 2005. The INPP SAS is engaged in the develoment of systemic and integrative physiology of the heart vessels and central nervous system.

The Institute collaborates very closely with the Slovak Society for Higher Brain Functions as well as the Slovak Physiological Society and the European Council for Cardiovascular Research and other international heart and cardiovascular societies.

The Institute has organised several national and international meetings on health promotion, behavioural modifications, mental health, quality of health, positive psychology and well-being, hypertension and heart reactivity. The screening of behavioural routines (e.g. nutrition, alcohol consumption, smoking, physical activities) in various groups of our population is discussed regularly.

The Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives (SCHWL) was set up in April 2006 and is a key vehicle in helping to create the conditions to deliver a virtuous circle between health and work in Scotland. The center works with employers to enable them to understand, protect and improve the health of their employees and to support those with health problems who have re-entered work to remain in work.

It offers services to support employers, which includes the package of measures available through the HWL website, HWL Adviceline, one-to-one workplace visits and customised support and a range of workshops and training sessions.

An Award programme (Healthy Working Lives Award )has been developed to support employers (and employees) to develop aspects of health promotion and safety in their workplaces.

Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance The Department of Labour Inspection is part of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of the Republic of Cyprus. The basic aim of the DLI is to safeguard adequate levels of safety and health at work, prevent occupational accidents and diseases and control the risks from major accidents, chemical substances and from the use of ionizing radiation.

Also among the objectives of the Labour Inspectorate is to protect the public against risk arising from working activities, control effectively industrial pollution, preserve the quality of the atmosphere of Cyprus, prepare all the legislative framework concerning Departmental activities and control employers' compliance with the relevant legislation, through inspections. The DLI is divided into individual sections responsible for Safety and Health Policy, Machinery and Chemicals, Field Operations, Industrial Pollution Control, Policy and Licensing, Air Quality and Radiation Protection. The National Institute of Occupational Health is a research institute contributing to the increased knowledge and practical applications of occupational health based on biomedical and natural sciences.
